With a length of 57 kilometers the Gotthard Base Tunnel is the longest railway tunnel in the world.
The construction of this unique tunnel has been laid out with two 57-kilometre parallel tubes, and equipped with solutions from the NIEDAX GROUP.

In total, the NIEDAX GROUP supplied more than 8,000 meters of stainless steel cable trays, more than 60,000 special support structures and 120,000 meters of special handrail.
Safety
General safety and fire safety are important themes and a starting point in projects.
That is why glass fiber reinforced plastic has been chosen for the handrail, which offers protection against high temperatures, corrosion and has a long service life.
Another positive property to choose for this solution and type of material is that in addition to being flame retardant, and even flame extinguishing, it is also halogen-free. As a result, no toxic gases are released in the event of a calamity such as fire.
